    To ask the Secretary of State for International Development, what recent discussions she has had with regional organisations in Pakistan and neighbouring countries about honour killings.

    Following the brutal murder of Farzana Parveen in Lahore on 27 May, I raised this issue at various levels in the Government of Pakistan. The Foreign Secretary and senior HMG officials in Pakistan have also publically and privately condemned the appalling crime of ‘honour killings’ and called for immediate action to bring the culprits of the 27 May attack to justice.

    HMG regularly engages with the government and civil society in Pakistan on women’s rights and violence against women, including so-called ‘honour killings’. Across DFID’s programmes in Pakistan we are helping women and girls to live healthy and secure lives.

    To ask the Secretary of State for International Development, what steps she is taking to ensure that people (a) with disabilities and (b) affected by disabilities are given full consideration in the Sustainable Development Goals and their attendant targets and indicators.

    The UK is pushing for the principle of ‘Leave no one behind’ to be included in the MDGs successor development framework, which was a central element of the report prepared for the UN Secretary general by the High Level Panel, co-chaired by the Prime Minister. We should ensure that no person, regardless of disability is denied universal human rights and basic opportunities.

    There are 12 full-time staff in the Health Services Team and Global Funds Department whose roles include work on malaria. In addition there are a wide range of staff across the Department, including research, press, policy, financial and corporate advisers and staff in the Regional Departments and country offices, whose roles include work on malaria.

    To ask the Secretary of State for International Development, what steps she is taking to promote the rights of women with disabilities and to ensure such women are empowered and achieve gender equality to the same extent as women without disabilities.

    DFID has put girls and women at the heart of international development and is committed to working with the Governments of developing countries to ensure that the issues faced by all vulnerable girls and women, including those with disabilities, are addressed in its programmes.

    On 13 May 2014, the International Development Gender Equality Act 2014 will come into law. This means that before development or humanitarian assistance is provided, the impact on gender equality – including for men and women with disabilities – must be considered within the poverty focus of the International Development Act.

    To ask the Secretary of State for International Development, if she will make it her policy to support the proposed target to promote formalisation of informal sector and employment in the upcoming Open Working Group negotiations on the Sustainable Development Goals.

    The UK supports formalisation of informal sector activities and employment. Language on this is included in the most recent draft goals and targets list released by the co-chairs of the Open Working Group (OWG) on 2 June.

    The final goals and targets in the post-2015 development framework will be subject to international negotiations in the United Nations, in which the UK will play an active role.

    To ask the Secretary of State for International Development, what steps she is taking to ensure that the millennium development goals and sustainable development goals are coherent with and integrated into the development agendas of all government departments.

    Ensuring that the Millennium Development Goals and Sustainable Development Goals are coherent with and are integrated into the development agendas of all UK Government departments is a priority for this Government. DFID Ministers and officials work closely with other Government departments and through the National Security Council, Cabinet and Cabinet sub-Committees to ensure development coherence across HMG.

    To ask the Secretary of State for International Development, if she will make it her policy to support the proposed target to build resilience and adaptive capacity to climate induced hazards in all vulnerable countries in the upcoming Open Working Group negotiations on the Sustainable Development Goals.

    The UK supports the strengthening of early warning and disaster risk reduction systems and related capacities with the aim of building resilience and protecting the poor and those in vulnerable situations from disasters and shocks, including climate-related extreme events.

    The final targets in the post-2015 development framework will however be subject to international negotiations in the United Nations, in which the UK will play an active role.
