NEWS STORY : Foreign Secretary Condemns Execution of Alireza Akbari

STORY

James Cleverly, the Foreign Secretary, has condemned the execution of the British-Iranian Alireza Akbari by the Iranian Government. Cleverly said:

“The execution of British-Iranian Alireza Akbari is a barbaric act that deserves condemnation in the strongest possible terms. Through this politically motivated act, the Iranian regime has once again shown its callous disregard for human life”.

A spokesperson for the European Union said:

“The European Union offers its condolences to Mr Akbari’s family and expresses its full solidarity with the United Kingdom. The execution of a European citizen is an appalling precedent that will be followed closely by the EU”.

The Iranian Government had accused Akbari of being a spy, something denied by the British Government and Akbari himself, with no evidence of the allegations yet to be produced by the Iranians.
