The King’s Birthday honours included a Baronetcy for Alexander Grant of Edinburgh and a Knighthood for the Right Hon William Lowrie Sleigh, Lord Provost of Edinburgh.
The Prime Minister stated in the House of Commons that the question of Government aid in the construction of a Channel tunnel in order to assist the unemployed had been brought to his notice.
All three candidates taking part in the Oxford by-election were old Blues of the University. Socialism was making its first bid for the representation for the city and the repeal of the McKenna duties was one of the few concrete issues of the campaign.
