Lt.-Col. L. G. Emsden, who was born in 1893, is a retired Regular Army officer who served in France and East Africa in 1914-18 and as a brigade major and staff officer from 1939 to 1945. He joined the Labour Party in 1945, and has served on Suffolk local authorities.
