BIOGRAPHY :

Sir Ronald Cross, British High Commissioner in Australia from 1941 to 1945, is a former Conservative Minister. He was born in 1896 and was educated at Eton. He served in the first war and in 1931 entered the House of Commons as member for Rossendale, but lost the seat in 1945. He has held numerous Parliamentary posts, including those of Government Whip, Vice-Chairman of the Household, and Parliamentary Secretary to the Board of Trade. From 1939to 1940 he was Minister of Economic Warfare, and from 1940 to 1941 Minister of Shipping. In the latter year he went to Australia.
