BIOGRAPHY :
Sir Ian Fraser was born 52 years ago and was educated at Marlborough and the Royal Military College, Sandhurst. In June, 1916, just before he was 19, he went to France with his regiment, and soon afterwards while leading a bombing party was shot through the eyes. He went to St. Dunstan’s in September, 1916, and in 1921 became chairman of the organization. From 1922 to 1925 he represented North St. Pancras on the London County Council, and in 1924 was elected to Parliament for the division. He resigned in 1936 when appointed a governor of the B.B.C. and returned to Parliament for the Lonsdale division of Lancashire in 1940. He was called to the Bar, Inner Temple, in 1943, and since 1947 has been national president of the British Legion.
