BIOGRAPHY :

Mr. E. Popplewell (50) was Vice-Chamberlain of the Household in the last Government. He captured West Newcastle from the Conserva-tiyes at the 1945 election with a majority of 8,131 in a straight fight. He was a signalman in the railway service and for 18 years was associated with local government. During the war he served with the Royal Marine Artillery and won the Belgian Croix de Guerre.
