BIOGRAPHY :

Mr. R. R. Stokes, chairman and managing director of Ransqmes and Rapier Limited, Ipswich, was first returned for Ipswich in 1938. Born in 1897, he was educated at Downside, the Royal Military Academy, and Trinity College, Cambridge. He served in the Royal Artillery in the 1914-18 war, winning the M.C. and bar and the Croix-de-Guerre. He was on the Parliamentary delegation to Cairo, 1947. He is well known in the House for his independent outlook and outspoken criticisms.
