BIOGRAPHY :

Mrs. B. Ayrton Gould had four electoral contests before being returned for N. Hendon in 1945. Educated at Notting Hill High School and University College, London, she was publicity manager of the Daily Herald, 1919-21. For the following 18 years she did voluntary work for the Union of General and Municipal Workers. In 1929-31 she served on the Royal Commission on the Civil Service, and in 1932 was acting Chief Woman Officer of the Labour Party. She was chairman of the Party 1939-40. She is vice-chairman of the British Council.
