BIOGRAPHY :

Mr. H. Berry, formerly a consulting engineer, who won the seat in 1945 for Labour, was born in Woolwich in 1888 and was educated at Polytechnic schools and Goldsmiths’ Institute. He has an extensive record of public service ; a former mayor of Woolwich, he has been on the council since 1922. He was president of the National Union of Allotment Holders in 1921-22. Among other activities he is governor of Woolwich Polytechnic and member of the Metropolitan Water Board and Thames Conservancy.
