BIOGRAPHY :
Mr. W. J. Irving, a former chairman of the Middlesex County Council, became M.P. for North Tottenham in December, 1945, after having been agent there for Mr. R. C. (now Lord) Morrison. The constituency disappeared under the new distribution. Born on April 1, 1892, he started work as a stevedore at Workington docks and later,was a trade union organizer. He was on the committee responsible for merging 13 unions into the Transport and General Workers Union. He was a borough councillor at 23.
