BIOGRAPHY :

Mr. Alfred Edwards was born in Middlesbrough 62 years ago. From an elementary school he entered industry as a boy, and while still a young man assumed control of the business. He is now a director of an old-established local ironworks, and is connected with many other enterprises. After serving on the town council, he won East Middlesbrough as a Labour candidate by a narrow majority i? 1935 and held the seat comfortably in 1945. His opposition to the Iron and Steel Act led to his expulsion from the Labour Party and later acceptance of the Conservative whip.
