BIOGRAPHY :

Mr. J. W. Smith has taken a prominent part in trade matters on behalf of his fellow Yorkshire coal merchants. He was for a time ” Uncle John ” in the Northern children’s hour of the B.B.C., and also a member of a concert party. He served with the 57th Division in the 1914-18 war, and in the second world war with the Huddersfield Civil Defence organization.
