BIOGRAPHY :

Sir John Mayhew represented the constituency from 1931 to 1945, when he was Qeteated. An agriculturist and industrialist, ne has family associations with Essex which go oack some centuries. In the 1914-18 war he served in France and was wounded. He was an army welfare officer from 1939 to 1949. A lreeman of the City of London, he has been a Provincial area chairman of the Conservative Party.
