BIOGRAPHY :

Mr. A. Woodburn, appointed Secretary of State for Scotland in 1947, is a native of Edinburgh. He was elected to Parliament in 1939, and during the war – time Government was Parliamentary private secretary to the Secretary for Scotland. In 1945 he was appointed Parliamentary Secretary to the Ministry of Supply. Born in 1890, he went to Heriot Watt College, and subsequently spent 25 years in engineering and ironfounding administration, specializing in languages and costing. Author and lecturer on economics, he has been president of the National Council of Labour Colleges, and secretary of the Scottish Labour Party.
