BIOGRAPHY :

Mr. W. Whitaker, aged 40, began work in the cotton industry at the age of 12 as a half-timer. At 16 he joined the Labour Party, and at 21 was elected to the Nelson and Colne divisional executive. He subsequently became district organizer for the Communist Party and served for five years as a member of the party’s national executive committee.
