BIOGRAPHY :
Brig. R. A. F. Thorp , defeated Lord (then Sir William) Beveridge in 1945. A regular soldier i with 27 years’ service, he was born in 1900 and j educated at Charterhouse and R.M.C., Quetta, being first commissioned in Skinner’s Horse in 1919. During the war I he was G.S.O.2, 3rd Division, France, 1939 ; D.A.Q.M.G. 1st Cavalry Division, Palestine, 1940; A.A.Q.M.G., 11th Division, Abyssinia, 1941 ; G.S.O.I, headquarters, East Africa, 1941 ; colonel in command, Northern Rhodesia, 1942 ; and brigadier commanding 31st Brigade, Abyssinian Frontier, 1943-45.
